In a significant move to bolster their bullpen, the Chicago Cubs have acquired veteran right-handed reliever Ryan Brasier from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The trade, finalized on February 4, 2025, involves the Cubs sending a player to be named later or cash considerations to the Dodgers. Additionally, Los Angeles provided financial compensation to Chicago as part of the deal.
Brasier, 37, brings a wealth of experience to the Cubs’ bullpen. Over his eight-season MLB career, he has posted a 3.85 ERA with 10 saves in 297 games. In the 2024 season, he appeared in 29 games for the Dodgers, recording a 3.54 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. His addition comes after the Cubs previously strengthened their bullpen by acquiring closer Ryan Pressly from the Houston Astros and reliever Eli Morgan from the Cleveland Guardians.
This acquisition reflects the Cubs’ commitment to enhancing their pitching staff as they aim for a strong postseason run in the 2025 season.
