Breaking News: Done Deal!! Chicago Cubs Officially Confirms Stunning Deal For Top Experienced All-star Prospect

Posted on June 13, 2025

The Chicago Cubs boast one of the most potent offenses in Major League Baseball, yet they may still be seeking improvements. With 60 runs scored in just nine games, they lead the league in runs, hits (84), doubles (20), and home runs (14). Despite this impressive production, there is potential for even further enhancement, and the Cubs could be eyeing one of the most underappreciated hitters in the AL East.

Chicago may look to trade for 2019 All-Star, the Tampa Bay Rays’ second baseman/outfielder. At 30 years old, Lowe remains a key contributor for the Rays. In the season’s first six games, he’s led the team with four runs, seven hits, two home runs, 13 total bases, six RBIs, two walks, and seven strikeouts. His impressive numbers include a .292 batting average, .346 on-base percentage, and .542 slugging percentage.

Lowe is currently in the fifth year of a six-year, $24 million contract with the Rays, which includes a $10.5 million club option for this season. Next off-season, Tampa Bay will have an $11.5 million club option for Lowe before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

While the Rays are striving to remain competitive in the tough AL East, they may consider trading veterans like Lowe to free up money for potential star acquisitions. For the Cubs, adding Lowe could strengthen their already talented roster and solidify second base, especially with current second baseman Jon Berti on a one-year, $2 million deal.
