Breaking News: Just In Pittsburgh Steelers Officially Announced The Signing Of Another Top Sensational Star To Squad

Posted on May 21, 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially brought back cornerback James Pierre, signing him to a one-year contract as they continue shaping their secondary ahead of the 2025 season. Pierre, a familiar face to Steelers fans, returns to Pittsburgh looking to provide depth and experience to the cornerback room after spending the past four seasons with the team.

Pierre originally joined the Steelers in 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic University. Despite his undrafted status, he quickly earned the coaching staff’s trust with his solid play on special teams and his ability to step in when needed in the defensive backfield. Over his time in Pittsburgh, Pierre has appeared in 56 games, making six starts. During that span, he recorded 86 total tackles, two interceptions, eight passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. His length and physicality have made him a useful piece in Pittsburgh’s defensive rotations, particularly in sub-packages and special teams units.

Bringing back Pierre on a one-year deal reflects the Steelers’ desire to maintain continuity in their secondary while also ensuring they have experienced depth. Although the team has young talent in players like Joey Porter Jr., who had a breakout rookie season in 2024, and Cory Trice Jr., who is working his way back from injury, veterans like Pierre play an important role in stabilizing the cornerback group.

Pierre’s most impactful season came in 2021 when he started four games and made 47 tackles, showing flashes of potential as a reliable cover corner. While he has primarily been utilized as a depth piece and special teamer in recent years, his versatility allows him to contribute in multiple phases of the game — a valuable trait for a team that prides itself on defense and physical play.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has frequently praised Pierre for his work ethic and his ability to be ready whenever his number is called. Re-signing him is a move that reinforces the team’s commitment to developing players who fit the culture and can perform in a variety of roles.

As the Steelers prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft and the remainder of free agency, keeping Pierre in the fold gives them flexibility moving forward. Whether it’s competing for a spot in the defensive rotation or continuing to be a key contributor on special teams, Pierre’s return provides valuable experience and depth at a position that demands both.

With Pierre back, the Steelers continue to build a roster that blends young talent with proven veterans as they look to return to the playoffs and compete for another championship in the upcoming season.
