BREAKING NEWS: Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin Just Officially Announced The Departure Of Two Top Experienced Star Player…..

Posted on May 24, 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ passing game struggled in Week 15, resulting in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Quarterback Russell Wilson completed just 14 passes for 128 yards and one touchdown, while Calvin Austin III emerged as the team’s leading receiver due to the absence of star wideout George Pickens, who missed his second consecutive game with a hamstring injury. On Thursday, the Steelers confirmed that Pickens will remain sidelined for the upcoming Week 16 divisional matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Additionally, backup quarterback Justin Fields has been ruled out for the game, as reported by NFL insider Tom Pelissero. While Fields occasionally contributed with read-option plays, Pickens’ continued absence is a significant setback for the Steelers.

Pickens’ impact was particularly notable in Week 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals, where he recorded three receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown. However, his performance was marred by unsportsmanlike-conduct penalties, leading to over $20,000 in fines and a stern reprimand from head coach Mike Tomlin.

Despite practicing in the lead-up to Week 14, Pickens was unexpectedly ruled out against the Cleveland Browns, raising concerns about the severity of his hamstring injury. He missed Week 15 against the Eagles, leaving veteran wideout Mike Williams to step into the role of primary receiver. However, Williams’ contributions have been minimal, with just four receptions for 51 yards over the last two games.

The Steelers’ struggles in Philadelphia were compounded by their inability to secure a win at Lincoln Financial Field, a streak that now spans 59 years. However, despite the loss, the team clinched a playoff berth in Week 15 and remains at the top of the AFC North standings. A win against the Ravens in Week 16 would secure the division title, as the Steelers previously defeated Baltimore in their first meeting this season.

On a more positive note, the Steelers’ defense received a boost as T.J. Watt returned to practice on Wednesday after injuring his ankle late in the Week 15 game. The Defensive Player of the Year frontrunner is expected to play against Baltimore, alleviating some concerns for the Steelers as they aim to solidify their position in the postseason race.

While the Steelers’ offense faces challenges without Pickens, their defensive strength, led by Watt, remains a critical asset as the team prepares for a high-stakes divisional clash.
