Breaking-News: Trade Pitch Has Bruins Acquiring $31 Million Star Forward in Blockbuster

Posted on June 3, 2025

Bruins Eye Major Trade After Disappointing Season

After a rough year that saw them fall to the bottom of the NHL standings, the Boston Bruins are determined to bounce back and be competitive in 2025. The front office has made it clear: a quick turnaround is the goal.

In the meantime, trade speculation is heating up — and one fan-generated scenario using PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool is turning heads. The proposed blockbuster would bring elite winger Jason Robertson to Boston from the Dallas Stars.

This hypothetical deal would be a massive move for Boston. Robertson, a proven top-line scorer, would immediately boost the Bruins’ offense. He’s entering the final year of a four-year, $31 million contract and is due for a significant extension. Last season, Robertson posted 35 goals and 45 assists (80 points in 82 games), with a career-best of 109 points in a single season.

In exchange, Boston would part with two first-round picks — including the high-value 7th overall in 2025 — along with top prospect Fabian Lysell and NHL forward Morgan Geekie. Lysell, Boston’s first-round pick in 2021, tallied 3 points in 12 NHL games this season and still carries strong upside. Geekie, a pending restricted free agent, is coming off a solid 57-point campaign and could help offset some of the scoring Dallas would lose in the deal.

Robertson’s Name Circulating in Rumors

While Robertson is a core piece of the Stars’ offense, NHL insider Jeff Marek (DailyFaceoff) recently floated his name as a potential trade candidate. With one year left on his current deal at a very team-friendly $7.75 million cap hit, the Stars could look to move him to regain draft capital and create financial flexibility.

Marek pointed to Ottawa and Anaheim as possible destinations but hinted that if Robertson is dealt, the ripple effect could include names like Mitch Marner becoming part of broader trade discussions.

Bruins Confident in a Quick Rebuild

Despite the poor results last season, Boston’s leadership remains confident in a fast rebound. CEO Charlie Jacobs believes the team can return to playoff contention by 2026, especially with a healthy roster and offseason reinforcements.

“I do feel…with the additions we intend to make this summer, I anticipate that we’ll have a playoff team and play meaningful hockey at this time of year in 2026,” Jacobs stated.

Prior to missing the postseason this year, the Bruins had made the playoffs for eight straight seasons.
