The Tennessee Titans are getting ready to put the name Cam Ward on the draft card for the first pick of the NFL Draft later this month. The picture became a little clearer Friday after the workout of Shedeur Sanders, the former Colorado star.
Already having their private workout with Ward in the rear view mirror, the Titans brass has informed Sanders and his people they are cancelling their private workout with him.
“After yesterday’s Colorado Pro Day, Titans brass met with Shedeur Sanders’ camp and the parties have agreed to cancel the upcoming private workout,” Titans.com’s Jim Wyatt reported. “The Titans have seen 4 years of game film, scouted multiple games, and now attended a Pro Day they described as very impressive.”
The same setup now goes for Colorado stud Travis Hunter, too.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, the private workouts are very important to NFL scouts and personnel department members. When the draftee comes into the facility they can be observed for a full day and be interviewed by coaches and see how they react under the bright lights.
Sanders and Hunter are going to miss the one-on-one meetings with the coaches where they can try to get inside his head. He will not have the opportunity to workout for the Titans before the draft.
Pro Day’s are scripted environments, which are orchestrated by the player’s position coach. Tennessee had nothing to do with the Pro Day workout.
But that’s immaterial now. Because of Cam.
It is pretty safe to say the Browns are on the clock at No. 2, with it being a foregone conclusion Ward is going to Tennessee. The question is do the Browns pass on Sanders and take Hunter or Penn State’s Abdul Carter, or do they take Sanders much earlier than he is mocked to go of late?
