Bruins general manager Don Sweeney’s description of one of his free agent signings as a “pain in the (expletive)” should have been a clue, but if it wasn’t, listen to the statement from another new addition.
“The group on this team is still very talented and strong, and with some new players joining us yesterday, we’re going to be a team that’s challenging to compete against,” Tanner Jeannot remarked on Wednesday, as noted by Chris Mason from MassLive. “That’s the kind of team that, if you can maintain consistent performance throughout the season and into the playoffs, it’s really tough to defeat. It wears other teams down. We’re going to be a team that others will dread facing. When they know the Boston Bruins are coming to town, they’ll expect a tough match.
“That’s how it has always been. That’s the Bruins culture. I feel that as a player, I’ve always tried to embody this type of culture. That’s what really excites me about coming here. I want to be a significant part of that. A substantial part of that culture, a big contributor to this team’s success, and it’s a very exciting time.”
Jeannot will actively engage in fights, too, as he frequently ranks high in fighting major penalties.
The Bruins hope he can bring this aspect to the game, along with the goal-scoring ability he demonstrated several years ago, to support a season where expectations are far from high.
