The Boston Bruins are retaining one of their leading centers for the next six years. As the offseason continues, they’ve ensured a new contract is secured with their top restricted free agent, Morgan Geekie.
The Bruins have announced that Geekie has signed a six-year contract extension with the team, with an average annual salary of $5.5 million. This agreement will keep the 26-year-old forward in Boston until the 2030-2031 season.
Geekie has played in 333 NHL games, shared between the Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, and Seattle Kraken, but he has reached new heights since joining Boston. He has gathered a total of 72 goals, 87 assists, and 159 points over his 333 career games. In his first season with the Bruins, he achieved new career peaks with 17 goals, 22 assists, and 39 points.
In the recent season, he improved further, ending with 33 goals, 24 assists, and 57 points in 77 games. Even more notably, Geekie scored just four of those goals on the power play. Last year, he was second on the Bruins in even-strength goals and points, achieving 29 goals and 48 points at 5-on-5.
The Bruins are hopeful Geekie will make additional strides forward next season. He has enhanced his offensive numbers for each of the past four years. Now with a substantial extension, the Bruins expect him to maintain at least 25 goals and 50 points for the upcoming six seasons..
