The New York Jets quarterback room was looking promising as they had let Aaron Rodgers go, and signed Justin Fields to provide an entirely new element to the team with his dual-threat ability. They also had the depth ahead of the season as well with Jordan Travis and Tyrod Taylor behind Fields to provide reliable depth.
That depth declined though as on Wednesday, April 30, Jordan Travis announced he was retiring from the NFL due to the serious leg injury he had suffered leading to doctors advising him to retire. Taylor has shown he can be a reliable backup, but he has also dealt with his fair share of injuries. In a worst-case scenario if both Fields and Taylor get injured, New York needs another quarterback in the room. That is where signing Carson Wentz will be beneficial for the Jets.
