Charles Leclerc has three podiums to his name so far this season.
Charles Leclerc has vowed to “give everything” until the end, as he explained the importance of fresh upgrades for Ferrari.
After a relatively slow start to the season, Leclerc has scored three podiums in the last five races, including a second in Monaco and third in Spain – two tracks which demand vastly different performance characteristics.
Ferrari has been battling balance and ride height problems with its SF-25, but Leclerc and team-mate Lewis Hamilton have climbed into second place in the constructors’ championship, albeit 197 points behind runaway leaders McLaren.
Whilst Leclerc concedes “on paper” it will be hard to defeat McLaren, he has insisted Ferrari must continue to strive and try to “take the lead” in its performances on-track.
“I don’t want to be thinking so long term, just because I have no visibility,” Leclerc explained when questioned on his goals for the rest of the season
“I know what is going to come for us in terms of small adjustments and improvements on the car, but I don’t know what is coming for other teams, so it is very difficult to predict or expect anything.
“On paper, it is going to be a tough one to go and beat McLaren in a year like this, where they’ve been dominant for the first part of the season, it will be very tough, but I will give everything until the end.
“Hopefully, with new parts, as soon as possible, we can take the lead in terms of performance on track, and then we can hope for better, but we cannot afford to lose too many races.”
