The Cleveland Browns could have a difficult choice to make in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Faced with the prospects of opening the season with Kenny PIckett as the Browns’ starting quarterback, Cleveland could select the top quarterback on the board with the No. 2 overall pick, or if the Tennessee Titans select Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, create one of the most menacing pass rush duos in the sport.
Cleveland Browns Could Be an Ideal Fit for Abdul Carter
Before free agency began, the Browns made amends with former Defensive Player of The Year Myles Garrett, signing the star edge rusher to a $40 million per season contract extension as one of the highest-paid players in the league.
As Pro Football Focus points out, pairing Garrett with Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter may be one of the perfect pairings to emerge from this year’s draft.
“Carter is one of the most pro-ready edge defender prospects in the PFF college era (since 2014),” Ryan Smith writes for PFF. “Despite 2024 being his first full-time season as an edge rusher, Carter dominated the competition, leading the FBS in PFF pass-rushing grade (92.4) and total pressures (66) while ranking in the top five in pass-rush win rate (22.6%).
“Garrett, meanwhile, led the league in PFF pass-rush grade (92.8), total pressures (83), pass-rush win rate (23.1%) and pressure rate (18.1%) in 2024, on his way to earning PFF’s “Best Pass Rusher” award for the third straight season. Garrett also became the youngest player in NFL history to reach 100 career sacks and the only player to record 14-plus sacks in four consecutive seasons.”
Pairing Carter’s elite traits with Garrett could prove lethal for the rest of the AFC North, and could be a realistic outcome for the Browns with the No. 2 pick.
