CONFIRMED: Trey Hendrickson Joins Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Bengals Trade Defensive End Amid Contract Tension. Read more

Posted on May 3, 2025

The Colts’ defensive coordinator, Gus Bradley, is expected to integrate Hendrickson into a scheme that emphasizes speed and aggressiveness, two qualities that have defined Hendrickson’s game since he entered the NFL. With the addition of Hendrickson, the Colts now have a dynamic pass-rusher who can help take the pressure off their secondary, making life more difficult for opposing quarterbacks.

As for the Bengals, they will now have to move forward without one of their most impactful defensive players. However, the trade allows them to free up cap space and gives them additional draft capital to build for the future. Cincinnati is known for its smart drafting and player development, and the team will likely target pass rushers in the upcoming draft to help fill the void left by Hendrickson’s departure.

The Bengals’ defense, while losing Hendrickson, still possesses a strong core, including stars like linebacker Logan Wilson and safety Jessie Bates. The team will lean on its established players while continuing to refine its defensive strategy under defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.

Trey Hendrickson’s trade to the Indianapolis Colts marks the end of a successful, albeit brief, tenure in Cincinnati. While the move is a loss for the Bengals, it is a huge gain for the Colts, who now have one of the league’s top pass-rushers to bolster their defense. As the 2025 season approaches, both teams will look to adjust and regroup, with Hendrickson poised to make an immediate impact in Indianapolis.
