WELCOME to today’s episode of Cub Tracks news and notes™, a greatest-hits collection of Chicago-style beat writers and bloggers, ground from #Cubs, #MiLB, and #MLB baseball, overheated, steeped in writers’ tears, and then cold-brewed overnight for maximum flavor. No artificial intelligences were deployed, employed, entranced, or embalmed in the commission of this missive (apparently I might be training some though). Cub Tracks eagerly awaits the advent of robotic umpires and has already amended the three laws. The going is weird. Cub Tracks turned pro a long time ago.
Cub Tracks. Where the great ones run away.
My onetime hero Zonker Harris wanted to achieve photosynthesis. I’m sure he’d like to know how it could be improved. I myself would like to know who’s on third (Jon Berti by default) and why Justin Turner isn’t golfing yet. But we have time. Indeed, in this best of all possible worlds, time and attention are the primary commodities.
Jon Heyman has been floating Tucker extension rumors, but Heyman also has recently gone full-sub, and the things don’t have any solid ground, so far. I’m sure we’ll all know if and when that sequence is made public. The Cubs seem to only leak deliberately.
Rea’s first batter didn’t augur well. He got out of it but threw a lot of pitches. Taijuan Walker had a similar experience but allowed single tallies in the first, third. and fourth. Rea has some magic. The Cubs kept the pressure on and escaped with a victory. 4-0 Cubs.
