The Chicago Cubs have needed to add pitching depth for the last few months. This season, Jameson Taillon and Ben Brown have struggled a bit and made this need even more glaring.
Cubs pitcher Justin Steele suffered an elbow injury and underwent season-ending surgery, too. Steele’s injury pushed the Cubs to the brink of desperation and it’s clear Chicago needs to add pitching in a trade.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently listed the Cubs as the “ideal landing spot” for Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Tyler Anderson this season, if Los Angeles opts to trade him.
“The Cubs have been scoring at will, but they were likely to be on the hunt for a rental starting pitcher this summer even before losing Justin Steele to season-ending surgery,” Miller wrote.
“Now, they’re borderline desperate for one, and may well swing big for one if at any point they lose their grip on first place in the NL Central. “For what it’s worth, Anderson does have excellent career numbers at Wrigley Field, making five starts there with a 2.45 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 10.6 K/9.”
If Anderson is traded, it’ll likely be at the trade deadline. The Angels look to be competitive this season, and it’s unlikely they’ll move Anderson if they have any chance to make the postseason.
Los Angeles did a lot to put itself in the position to make the postseason. Either way, the Cubs need to add a pitcher.
If Anderson is available at the trade deadline, he would be the perfect, affordable starting pitcher that the Cubs need.
