Happy Sunday, Cubs fans! The Cubs will be hosting the Phillies tonight for ESPN’s showcase game of the week, and you know that that means here at Bleed Cubbie Blue: Sunday Night Baseball bingo!
This game started as a way to poke fun at some of the faux pas that previous iterations of the ESPN booth committed. However, in the past couple of years the new booth has actually been quite good, so you’ll notice newer versions of these cards have focused more on baseball, which is definitely a win for all of us.
This Cubs vs. Phillies series sits tied with each team winning one of the first two games. Tonight’s match-up will feature Aaron Nola for the Phillies. Nola has been good for 180-205 innings each of the last four seasons with an above-average ERA, but has struggled out of the gate in his first 28 innings of 2025 with an uncharacteristic 6.43 ERA through five starts.
The Cubs will hope those struggles continue for at least one more game as they send Jameson Taillon to the mound. Taillon has been solid for his last four starts after he had a rough one his first time out this year against the Diamondbacks. So far as a Cub, he’s had one excellent start against the Phillies last season, and really struggled against Philadelphia in 2023.
It should be a lovely day for Bingo at the Friendly Confines, however. As I write this introduction for tonight’s game it’s about 60 degrees without a cloud in the sky in the old neighborhood.
I’ll be at tonight’s game so I won’t be calling the card on social media like I normally do, but something tells me there will be a handful of people willing to fill in for me in the game thread.
As always, make it a blackout game if you’re looking for a challenge tonight. However, we don’t recommend making this a drinking game as you’d probably be in danger of blacking out yourself.
