Done Deal: Chicago Cubs Now Reached A Mutual Agreement To Land Another $85 Million Slugger In Blockbuster Deal

Posted on April 21, 2025

There were offseason rumors suggesting that the Chicago Cubs might trade Seiya Suzuki. While no action was taken during the winter months, there is still a possibility that the Cubs could move on from him and his relatively expensive contract,

which runs through 2026. If the Cubs are open to trading him, the Atlanta Braves should prioritize him given their current issues.

Suzuki has been playing exceptional baseball in the 2025 season, with a .256/.327/.581 slash line over 10 games. He leads the league in strikeouts but boasts a solid 146 OPS+. According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, the Braves expect Ronald Acuña Jr.

to return in May, but with Jurickson Profar suspended, they could use some additional help in the meantime. Bowman noted that the Braves added Fairchild, anticipating Profar’s suspension through June,

and that Fairchild, Kelenic, De La Cruz, and Harris will fill the outfield for now. Verdugo may become an option soon, and Acuña’s return in May is expected. The Cubs don’t have much reason to move Suzuki in the next few weeks, and a trade closer to the deadline would make more sense for both parties. However, if the Cubs continue their strong performance,

currently 7-4 and in first place in the NL Central, trading their three-hitter would be questionable. Nevertheless, with the Cubs’ focus on cutting costs in recent years, a trade remains a possibility, and the Braves appear to be the most logical fit for Suzuki.
