Rory McIlroy will get an emotional boost when he arrives at the Renaissance Club for the Scottish Open as he looks to recover from his US Open collapse
Rory McIlroy is set for a much-needed emotional lift when he arrives at the Renaissance Club for the Scottish Open. Having been out of the limelight since his dramatic defeat to Bryson DeChambeau at the US Open, where DeChambeau pipped the 35-year-old by just one stroke at Pinehurst No. 2, and with personal life troubles due to divorce issues, McIlroy’s return to the greens comes with a heartening surprise.
On the 18th hole of the Renaissance Club, there has been a plaque erected thatcommemorates a legendary McIlroy shot in 2023. His 2-iron shot, from over 200 yards, landed just 11 feet short of the hole, despite playing into a 40-mph wind. He subsequently landed the birdie to win the competition.
We just did it today,” revealed club founder Jerry Sarvadi, as reported by Golf Week, “We’re going to tell him when he gets here.” Moreover, McIlroy has acknowledged that the shot he played will be etched in his memory
