Ex-Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman John Malecki reflects on the 2013 season, and it’s safe to say he does not have fond memories of it. Prior to Mike Munchak establishing stability in the Steelers’ offensive line during the 2010s, Jack Bicknell Jr. served as the team’s offensive line coach. He remained for only one season after transferring from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Malecki stated that it was clear from the beginning that Bicknell lacked the essential abilities to unify the group.
“They brought in another person for that season, and it was total chaos,” Malecki stated on the ‘TDDP’ podcast. “This guy was terrible.” This resembles the time of the Killer B’s. In my view, they had the potential to be Super Bowl contenders, but they were messing things up badly on the backend. However, they hired this coach who couldn’t unite the team.
Bicknell was a seasoned coach when he was hired by the Steelers. He spent one season as the Chiefs’ offensive line coach and had earlier worked as the assistant offensive line coach for the New York Giants from 2009 to 2011. In the past, he progressed through the college levels.
The Steelers team of 2013 fell short of expectations. They finished 8-8 in 2012 without qualifying for the playoffs, matching the record from the year before.
After the Steelers parted ways with him, Bicknell has navigated through various college positions since then, and he has now been appointed by Rich Rodriguez as the offensive line coach at West Virginia. He played for Wisconsin in the previous two seasons.
