Former Raiders QB Marcus Mariota wishes to end his NFL career with the Raiders after 1 year deal with the Washington Commanders

Posted on May 27, 2025

Veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota, currently under contract with the Washington Commanders, has reportedly expressed interest in concluding his NFL career with the Las Vegas Raiders, the team he previously played for during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Mariota re-signed with the Commanders in March 2025 on a one-year, $8 million deal, serving as a backup to starting quarterback Jayden Daniels. His performance in the 2024 season included stepping in during critical moments, notably leading Washington to a 23–19 comeback victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the regular-season finale, delivering a game-winning touchdown pass with just two seconds remaining.

Despite his current commitment to the Commanders, Mariota has been linked to a potential reunion with the Raiders. Reports suggest that the Raiders have considered bringing him back, especially given his previous tenure with the team and his familiarity with the organization’s dynamics.

Mariota’s connection to the Raiders is further strengthened by the presence of offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who coached him during his college years at the University of Oregon. This shared history could make a return to Las Vegas an appealing prospect for both parties.

While no official statements have been made regarding Mariota’s future plans, his expressed interest in ending his career with the Raiders adds an intriguing dimension to his professional journey. As the 2025 NFL season progresses, fans and analysts alike will be watching to see if this potential reunion comes to fruition.
