BREAKING: 49ers, George Kittle Agree to 4-Year, $76.4M Extension — Highest-Paid Tight End in NFL History
Santa Clara, CA — April 29, 2025
The San Francisco 49ers have locked down one of their cornerstone players for the foreseeable future. Star tight end George Kittle has agreed to a 4-year, $76.4 million contract extension, including $40 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The deal makes Kittle the highest-paid tight end in NFL history, surpassing previous records set by players like Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews. It also reinforces San Francisco’s commitment to its offensive identity—one built on physicality, versatility, and elite playmaking at the tight end position.
Kittle, 31, has been a dynamic force in Kyle Shanahan’s offense since being drafted in the fifth round in 2017. Known for his rare combination of blocking prowess, route-running, and yards-after-catch ability, Kittle has become a fan favorite and team leader. In 2024, he posted 885 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns, earning yet another Pro Bowl nod and helping power the 49ers to a deep playoff run.
General Manager John Lynch released a statement following the news:
“George embodies everything we value as a 49er—toughness, leadership, and a relentless drive to win. He’s not just one of the best tight ends in the game—he’s one of the best players, period.”
Kittle’s extension ensures he will remain in red and gold through the 2029 season, anchoring a roster that continues to contend for Super Bowl titles behind a strong core of veterans and rising stars.
With this extension, the 49ers maintain continuity on offense and send a clear message: the heart and soul of their team isn’t going anywhere.
