San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy received his much-awaited extension last month by agreeing to a five-year, $265 million contract with the 49ers. After initially being one of the lowest-paid starting quarterbacks in the NFL due to being the final pick in the 2022 NFL draft, Purdy has now become the seventh-highest-paid quarterback and will earn an annual salary of $53 million.
Following the announcement of Purdy’s contract, several of his teammates, including tight end George Kittle, congratulated him. Given Purdy’s new contract, Kittle humorously remarked that he hopes the fourth-year quarterback will start footing the bill for everything, such as the team’s yearly Halloween gathering.
“He’ll cover everything from now on,” Kittle commented on Friday during the Pat McAfee Show. “Hopefully he’ll pay for the Halloween party this year, so it’s not down to me and [Kyle Juszczyk] anymore. $265 [million] can definitely host a better one.”
Kittle himself secured a four-year, $76.4 million contract this offseason, making him the NFL’s highest-paid tight end with a yearly salary of $19.1 million. Many 49ers players, such as Kittle, Christian McCaffrey, Fred Warner, and Nick Bosa, have been among the top earners for their positions. However, even these figures are dwarfed by the salaries of quarterbacks, like Purdy, in today’s NFL.
