The Indianapolis Colts are re-signing quarterback Jason Bean for the 2025 season, according to his agent Brett Tessler.
Tessler shared the update on X and added the following comments regarding Bean:
“(He) Ranked among the leading QBs in last year’s preseason, and with a year of growth behind him, is expected to have a significantly larger impact next season.”
Bean agreed to terms with the Colts as an undrafted newcomer from Kansas after the draft in April. He would utilize the offseason and training camp with the team and subsequently the 2024 season on the practice squad.
As Tessler noted, Bean had an impressive preseason performance, hitting 15-of-19 passes at 10.4 yards per attempt, demonstrating his capability to create significant plays, including one touchdown pass and one interception. He averaged 4.9 yards per carry on 11 attempts and added two more rushing touchdowns.
Bean is included on the Colts’ roster as a quarterback/wide receiver, offering a distinctive skill set to the team thanks to his capabilities as a ball carrier and pass catcher—two roles he performed, alongside playing quarterback, during his time at Kansas.
“Characteristics,” remarked assistant GM Ed Dodds regarding Bean throughout the offseason. “He’s tall.” He is truly quick. He’s quicker than his documented 40 time suggests. The greater the number of tasks they are able to perform. “He will also be doing various new tasks for us.”
As Joe Flacco and Sam Ehlinger prepare to enter free agency, Bean may find himself vying for the backup quarterback position this summer.
