Indianapolis Colts Waive Center Ryan Kelly in Roster Move

Posted on June 6, 2025

The Indianapolis Colts announced today that they have waived veteran center Ryan Kelly, marking a significant shift in the team’s offensive line dynamics. Kelly, a former first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, has been a cornerstone of the Colts’ offensive line for nearly a decade, earning multiple Pro Bowl selections and providing stability at the center position.

The decision to waive Kelly comes as the Colts continue to evaluate their roster and salary cap situation. While no official reason was provided, the move could signal a shift toward younger talent or a strategic restructuring of the team’s offensive line. Kelly, 31, has been a reliable presence on the field, known for his leadership and consistency, but injuries and performance fluctuations in recent seasons may have influenced the team’s decision.

Colts General Manager Chris Ballard released a brief statement following the announcement: “We are incredibly grateful for Ryan’s contributions to the Colts organization over the years. He has been a leader on and off the field, and this decision was not made lightly. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

Kelly’s departure leaves a notable void at the center position, with the Colts likely turning to internal options or exploring free agency to fill the role. Rookie or backup linemen may now have an opportunity to step up as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

As for Kelly, he will now enter the waiver wire, where other NFL teams have the opportunity to claim him. If he goes unclaimed, he will become a free agent and can sign with any team of his choosing. Given his experience and pedigree, Kelly is expected to draw interest from teams in need of a veteran center.

Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how this move impacts the Colts’ offensive line and whether Kelly finds a new home in the league. For now, the Colts bid farewell to one of their most respected players, marking the end of an era in Indianapolis.
