Insider Foresees Significant Quarterback Regret for Steelers

Posted on May 16, 2025

A source within the NFL knowledgeable about the Pittsburgh Steelers states that the New York Giants find themselves in a significantly stronger position than the Steelers following the first round of the NFL Draft.

When assessing the New York Giants against the Pittsburgh Steelers, one might conclude that the Steelers fulfill all the criteria for being the superior team.

Is that going to change?

As reported by Joe Starkey from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, who follows the Steelers, the Giants have accomplished two things that the Steelers have not in order to achieve success on the road in the future. Initially, the Giants secured a playoff victory this decade, achieving this a few years back in Brian Daboll’s inaugural season as an NFL head coach. The Steelers have reached the playoffs more frequently, naturally, but their tendency to vanish in the first round has become a tradition in Pittsburgh.

Secondly, the Giants selected Jaxson Dart, who many believe was meant to be the Steelers’ future quarterback, with the 25th pick in the first round. The Giants moved up in the round after the Steelers overlooked the Ole Miss player and acquired him.

Starkey states that the Giants now possess a franchise quarterback for the future, whereas the Steelers are still searching.

Starkey expressed his approval of the Steelers’ first-round pick, Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon. He cannot blame the club for aiming to enhance the trenches. They created a list of requirements.

Nonetheless, Starkey stated, “nothing truly counts if you lack a quarterback.” Starkey now recommends that the Steelers consider Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders or Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. Given the Steelers’ shortage at quarterback, either of those two quarterbacks might be exactly what head coach Mike Tomlin needs.
