“It’s Going To Be Hard”: Caleb Williams Adjustments To New Bears HC Ben Johnson Predicted By Ian Rapaport

Posted on April 11, 2025

Caleb Williams is going to have a tough life with Ben Johnson as coach of the Chicago Bears, according to sports writer Ian Rapoport. Johnson was brought as the new head coach of the Chicago Bears for the 2025 NFL season after Matt Eberflus, the previous head coach, was let go by the team after a subpar season.

Johnson was previously the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, and clearly did a great job at that to impress the Bears enough. This will be Johnson’s first head coaching gig in his coaching career which started in 2009 when he was a graduate assistant at Boston College.

“Ben Johnson has been incredibly successful in Detroit. Is he the most pleasant person to be around during the season? I don’t think he is. It’s going to be hard. And I don’t even know if right now Caleb Williams understands, but like, a Monday night in November is going to suck. And if you want to be great, it has to suck. And so yeah, like, it’s all smiles. Now he’s out there. He’s looking cool. It’s a lot of positivity to get where they need to go. He has to embrace being absolutely and utterly miserable.” Ian Rapoport said on ‘Good Morning Football’ on Wednesday.

Caleb Williams has been playing for the Chicago Bears since the previous NFL season after the team selected him as the very first pick in the first round of the draft. Before the NFL, Williams played college football for the USC Trojans and the Oklahoma Sooners prior to that. In the 2024 NFL season, Williams managed a total of 3,541 yards, scoring 20 touchdowns, while managing six interceptions for the team.

Caleb Williams Feels Energized By Ben Johnson

Meanwhile, Caleb Williams and the rest of the Chicago Bears seem happy, although analysts like Ian Rapoport are reporting that Ben Johnson’s coaching style may stifle them. In a recent YouTube video shared by the Chicago Bears, Williams and his teammates can be heard speaking about their first experiences with Johnson as a coach.

“Today we had our first quiz in the quarterback room. It’s not like a real quiz where you have to write stuff. It’s just us. We went over a few things yesterday, talked about a few things and Ben walked in this morning, flung open the door, made a grand entrance and then we got to work.” Caleb Williams said.

With Ben Johnson as the new head coach of the team, the Chicago Bears will hope to improve their performance from the previous season. In the 2024 NFL season, Chicago finished fourth in the NFC North with only five wins and 12 defeats.
