Jets Predicted to Draft 1,300-Yard Weapon for Justin Fields

There are few jobs in America that have as low of a success rate and job security as starting quarterback for the New York Jets. Heading into 2025, the Jets are set to debut their eighth starting quarterback of the 2020s, after the team inked Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract this offseason. After an up-and-down three year stint with the Chicago Bears, who drafted Fields No. 11 overall in 2021, Fields spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fields started the first six games of the season with Russell Wilson injured, proving himself enough to earn the contract from the Jets. On the Jets, Fields will be reunited with his Ohio State Buckeyes teammate Garrett Wilson, who will coincidentally also be the best receiver Fields has played with in the pros. Outside of Wilson, however, the receiver room looks dire. With that in mind, perhaps the Jets will address receiver in the upcoming NFL Draft.

On Tuesday, Yahoo Sports’ Charles McDonald predicted that the Jets would do so in his mock draft, having the Jets land Arizona wideout Tetairoa McMillan with the No. 7 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. “The Jets have opted to go with Justin Fields as their quarterback this year and grab a top flight wide receiver prospect to go with him and Garrett Wilson,” McDonald wrote. “McMillan and Wilson would be one of the best young wide receiver duos in the league and would give the Jets passing game a higher floor for Fields this season (and another quarterback down the road).”

McMillan is coming off a 1,319 yard season. He also hauled in eight touchdowns in his 12-game All-American season. This comes after a 13-game, 1,402 yard, 10 touchdown season last year. He has been one of college football’s best receivers, and many scouts believe his skillset will translate seamlessly to the pros. Paired up with Wilson, whose best college season consisted of 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns, the Jets would immediately have one of the fiercest one-two punches in the NFL, which would make Fields’ job much easier, as no secondary would reasonably be able to shut down the duo for a full 60 minutes.
