With round tow of the 2025 NFL Draft set to take place, major trades remain on the horizon. One of the trade candidates continues to be Breece Hall. According to a post from Josina Anderson, there seems to be truth to the Jets making Breece Hall available via a trade, especially over the last week.
With Hall seemingly available for a trade, and after how night one of the draft played out, one team comes to mind to trade for the star running back, and that is the Cleveland Browns.
Cleveland Browns Trading for Breece Hall
After the New York Jets selected their new offensive tackle in round one with Armand Membou, the team still needs to secure their tight end of the future. With Mason Taylor still on the board, the Jets don’t take any chances of a team jumping them, and instead trade up with the Cleveland Browns to ensure they get the tight end they want. With selecting Taylor they give Justin Fields a reliable player at the position he throws to at a high rate.
For the Browns, they are reportedly looking to trade out of the first pick in the second round at 33rd overall, which would be an ideal pick in return for Breece Hall. The Browns need a starting running back for the 2025 NFL season, as Nick Chubb remains a free agent, and even if he were to be brought back, can’t be relied on as the top running back anymore. Chubb was injured for a majority of the 2024 season, but even when he was on the field, he looked to have lost a step with his speed not being there, and struggling to gain extra yards after contact like he once used to.
By trading for Breece Hall, the Browns get their running back for the future, as Hall is just 23 years old currently. Over his three seasons in New York so far he has rushed for 2,333 yards and 14 touchdowns while also adding versatility as a pass-catcher with 1,292 yards, and eight touchdowns. That type of rushing ability under a Kevin Stefanski offense would be ideal for his scheme. The receiving ability as well with a projected rookie quarterback down the line would also be beneficial for the offense.
Hall is entering the final year of his rookie contract, so upon trading for him, the Browns would have to think about extending him. But with getting a quarterback on a rookie contract, the Browns have some cap flexibility to get the extension done for Breece Hall.
