JUST IN: Another Experienced Fans Favorite Playmaker Officially Turn Down New Contract Offer To Sign With Arch Rivals

Posted on April 25, 2025

The New York Mets bolstered their injury-depleted roster by acquiring outfielder  from the Chicago Cubs.

The team announced Monday night that they sent cash to the Cubs in exchange for the 24-year-old.

Canario played 15 games for the Cubs last season, hitting .280 with one home run and two RBIs. In Triple-A with the Iowa Cubs, he posted a .243 average, 18 home runs, and 47 RBIs over 64 games.

He was designated for assignment last Thursday after the Cubs signed veteran infielder Justin Turner. Canario originally joined the Cubs in 2021 as part of the trade that sent Kris Bryant to the San Francisco Giants.Chicago Cubs inexplicably wasting Alexander Canario on the bench

To make room on the roster, the Mets placed infielder Nick Madrigal on the 60-day injured list. Madrigal fractured his left shoulder during a spring training game against the Washington Nationals on Sunday. He was expected to serve as a backup to star shortstop Francisco Lindor.

The Mets continue their spring training schedule with a matchup against the Houston Astros at 1:05 p.m. EST on Tuesday in West Palm Beach.
