JUST IN: Cubs To Land Another $15.5 Million Pitcher In Blockbuster Trade

Posted on April 14, 2025

The Chicago Cubs are emerging as one of the top teams in the National League Central after a series of offseason additions, including a trade for Kyle Tucker. They may continue to strengthen their roster by making more moves this season. One area where the Cubs could look to improve is their pitching rotation. Jon Conahan of Athlon Sports recently suggested that the Cubs could make a surprising trade within the division with the Milwaukee Brewers to acquire their ace, Freddy Peralta.

“In a relatively weak NL Central, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Milwaukee at the top of the standings again,” Conahan wrote. “The Chicago Cubs are the Brewers’ biggest threat, and Chicago should feel confident in their ability to take the division. On paper, the Cubs are a much stronger team, and if things go as expected, they should win the division. This could also benefit them in more ways than one.”

While a trade with the Brewers is always difficult, Conahan notes that the Cubs have one of the top farm systems in MLB, making such a deal possible. If the Brewers continue to struggle and fall out of playoff contention, adding Freddy Peralta could be a great move to bolster the Cubs’ rotation.

Although this would be a significant move for the Cubs, it’s unclear whether the Brewers would be willing to consider it. Milwaukee is known for developing pitchers, so trading Peralta could be a tough decision. The Brewers have already lost manager Craig Counsell to the Cubs, and they could risk losing Peralta as well if the right trade offer comes along.
