The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially signed former Ohio State edge rusher Jack Sawyer to his rookie contract—a standard four-year deal.
Sawyer joins a deep and talented group of edge rushers that includes T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbig. With Watt entering the final year of his contract and the team looking to shore up its run defense, Sawyer could provide valuable support in those areas.
He is one of two Ohio State players selected by Pittsburgh in the draft, alongside quarterback Will Howard.
During his four-year stint with the Buckeyes, Sawyer tallied 23 sacks—nine of which came in his senior year—while helping lead the team to a National Championship. He also racked up 144 total tackles and 11 pass breakups.
Initially projected to contribute on special teams, Sawyer brings promising run-stopping ability and could rotate in as an outside linebacker, particularly against heavier offensive sets.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, and GM Omar Khan attended Ohio State’s pro day to personally evaluate Sawyer. Now officially a Steeler, he’s expected to bring depth and versatility to a defense in need of reinforcements.
