Kansas City Says Goodbye to a Titan: Chiefs’ Record-Setting Legend Retires After a Lengthy NFL Career

Posted on June 6, 2025

One of the most prolific players at his position over his time in the NFL is hanging up his cleats.

And as far as the Kansas City Chiefs are concerned, his stats may never be matched.

Dustin Colquitt signed a one-day contract with the Chiefs to retire officially as a Kansas City player on Wednesday.

The punter played 15 seasons for the Chiefs, beginning in 2005 and ending in 2019.

Colquitt was a third-round draft choice (99th overall) for the Chiefs in 2005 out of Tennessee.

The lefty punter played in 255 games with Kansas City before spending time with the Falcons, Browns, Steelers and Jaguars.

Colquitt’s last NFL game was in 2021, but he hadn’t officially retired.

He is Kansas City’s all-time leader in punts, punt yardage and punts inside the 20.

Colquitt got to be a member of just one of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl teams before he departed for the journeyman stage of his career.

He also made a pair of Pro Bowls.

His father, Craig, punted in the NFL, as did his brother, Britton.
