Major Breaking: Chicago Cubs part ways With Another Major Veteran

Posted on April 14, 2025

The Cubs will have one more new coach in 2025.

Al Yellon, the managing editor of Bleed Cubbie Blue since 2005, has also authored three books about the Cubs, including his latest, “Chicago Cubs Firsts.” Earlier this offseason, the Cubs parted ways with three coaches: first-base coach Mike Napoli, assistant hitting coach Jim Adduci, and bullpen coach Darren Holmes.

Today, another coach has left the Cubs:

It appears there was a difference of opinion between manager Craig Counsell and Willie Harris regarding the direction of the coaching position. This decision to “part ways,” as noted by Bruce Levine, is neither positive nor negative—just a mutual choice.

It was generally expected that Counsell would bring in more of “his guys” as coaches for 2025, especially since he wasn’t able to do so following his hiring in 2024. It wouldn’t be surprising if other coaches, such as bench coach Ryan Flaherty, are also replaced for next season.

This approach would ensure that Counsell has a coaching staff aligned with his vision for managing the Cubs.

As always, we’ll keep an eye on any further developments.
