Major Breaking: Chicago Cubs Set To Sign A Major Deal For Two-Time World Series Champion

Posted on April 14, 2025

The Chicago Cubs have been notably active this offseason, significantly bolstering their roster with key acquisitions. They secured outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros in exchange for infielder Isaac Paredes, right-handed pitcher Hayden Wesneski, and minor-league infielder Cam Smith. Tucker, a three-time All-Star, brings a robust offensive and defensive skill set to the Cubs’ outfield.

Additionally, the Cubs acquired right-handed relief pitcher Ryan Pressly from the Astros, sending minor league right-hander Juan Bello to Houston. Pressly, a two-time All-Star, is expected to take on the closer role for Chicago, further strengthening their bullpen.

These strategic moves underscore the Cubs’ commitment to reshaping their roster and enhancing their competitiveness for the upcoming season.

The Cubs are establishing themselves as strong contenders in a wide-open NL Central, but they may still have more moves to make.

The Cubs are still strongly pursuing Alex Bregman, and adding the two-time All-Star could solidify their position as the favorites in the NL Central.

As his free agency extends into February, the Cubs remain one of the teams connected to Alex Bregman. Signing him would block top prospect Matt Shaw but would also prevent the Cubs from depending on an untested option in the everyday lineup to start the season, according to Reuter.

Adding Bregman would strengthen third base and provide Chicago with a lineup designed to contend in 2025.

The Cubs still face uncertainty at third base, as top prospect Matt Shaw may not be MLB-ready by Opening Day.

Without Bregman, the Cubs would likely have to depend on Jon Berti or Rule 5 pick Gage Workman, which could make them vulnerable offensively. Adding Bregman would provide an immediate impact, solidifying third base and adding another proven bat to their lineup.

In addition to his on-field abilities, Bregman has a connection to the Cubs through his former Astros teammate Kyle Tucker, who could play a role in recruiting him to Wrigley Field.

Reports indicate that Bregman is looking for a short-term, high-salary contract with opt-outs, a strategy that aligns with how teams have been handling free agents later in the offseason.

With a solid pitching staff, an improved bullpen, and a strong offense, Chicago is on the cusp of becoming a powerhouse in the Central.

If the Cubs were to sign Bregman, they would not only be favorites for the division but also serious contenders in 2025.
