The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed Mason Rudolph this offseason following his one-year stint with the Tennessee Titans, but in spite of the earlier exit and the speculation regarding his position on the team, he is pleased to return to the Steel City.
The Pittsburgh Steelers encounter real uncertainties at the quarterback position after the significant talent acquisition phases of the offseason. They have not only overlooked strong starting choices for 2025, but there is also no established foundational element to advance the franchise.
They could consider several veteran alternatives via trade, and the link to Aaron Rodgers is still a genuine option. However, until the pen touches the paper, nothing is definitive in these situations, particularly regarding Rodgers.
That positions Mason Rudolph at the top of the Steelers’ depth chart. Rudolph has prior starting experience with both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tennessee Titans, but he is not viewed as a long-term answer.
He will act primarily as a connection to the next quarterback who takes over the franchise. However, that doesn’t appear to trouble him significantly months ahead of the beginning of training camp.
For Rudolph, he is primarily thrilled to return to Pittsburgh and represent a lively sports atmosphere. He stated that very clearly while assisting at the Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon on Saturday.
“Returning to the city of Pittsburgh, it is a sports town unlike any other.” “Whenever we have the chance to give back, it’s always an enjoyable experience,” Rudolph told the local television channel WTAE.
Currently, the rival in Rudolph aims to validate the Steelers’ decision to re-sign him during free agency. The Steelers did gamble on Will Howard towards the end of the draft, but neither he nor Skylar Thompson is anticipated to take the starting reps in this group.
His familiarity with Pittsburgh and the retention of some coaching staff from his earlier time there should work to his advantage. He played his initial five seasons with the Steelers before departing last offseason to join the Titans.
Regardless of whether the Steelers have an additional move in mind or ultimately acquire Rodgers, they are aware that they at least possess a reliable option in Rudolph to see them through the season.
