Multiple Star Players Linked to Colts in Potential Trade Scenarios

Posted on May 13, 2025

While the Indianapolis Colts are coming off what many consider a solid draft, they still have gaps to address before becoming true contenders. It’s rare for a team to leap from 8-9 to Super Bowl-ready on the strength of a single draft class.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox compiled a list of veterans who could be traded before the season, and the Colts are reportedly linked to several, including quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Kirk Cousins, as well as Bengals defenders Trey Hendrickson and Germaine Pratt.

Joe Flacco
Flacco, who went 2-4 as a starter for Indianapolis in 2024 with 1,761 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, is currently part of a crowded Browns quarterback room. Cleveland, already housing Deshaun Watson, added Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders in the draft and traded for Kenny Pickett.

“Flacco helped the Browns reach the playoffs two years ago,” Knox notes. “But at 40, and with the Browns unlikely to keep four QBs, Indy could consider bringing him back if their QB competition underwhelms.”

Trey Hendrickson
Few players are surrounded by more offseason speculation than Hendrickson. Whether he’ll be extended, traded, or play under his current deal remains unclear. If he’s dealt, the Colts are among the logical destinations.

Knox writes, “The Colts should be interested, especially with former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo now in Indianapolis.”

Germaine Pratt
Linebacker remains a need for the Colts, and Pratt, who posted 143 tackles, two picks, and two forced fumbles in 2024, could be a fit—whether via trade or free agency if released.

“Pratt should draw interest from any team needing a quality off-ball linebacker,” Knox writes. “He’s also close with Anarumo, which makes Indy a natural fit.”

Kirk Cousins
Second only to Hendrickson in offseason trade buzz, Cousins remains with the Falcons—for now. Atlanta failed to move him during the draft and claims they’re comfortable keeping him as a backup, though many remain skeptical.

“Cousins would have to waive his no-trade clause,” Knox explains, “but he might for a real shot to start. The Colts and Steelers are the most logical options after both passed on QBs early in the draft.”

In the end, while Indianapolis could pursue one of these veterans, it’s unlikely they’ll land more than one—if any. Much depends on how Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones perform during camp. Flacco and Cousins stand out as the most probable additions if the Colts’ QB situation falters.
