‘Multiple’ Teams Making Calls to Browns and Giants At Top of Draft While Titans Staying Put

For weeks now, it has appeared that the first few picks of the NFL Draft would largely go chalk, with Cam Ward going No. 1 overall to the Titans, followed by Travis Hunter to the Browns at No. 2 and Abdul Carter to the Giants at No. 3.

However, while Ward still seems like a lock for the Titans with the top selection, it appears that there could be some movement in the works elsewhere.

According to ESPN NFL analyst Pete Schrager, there are multiple teams making phone calls to both the Browns and Giants in regards to a trade – some of whom could be targeting Boise State star running back, Ashton Jeanty.

“There have been phone calls made to both the Browns at two and the Giants at three, with the intention to move up. Several different sources are telling me there are multiple teams who are looking to get up in this draft to either the No. 2 or the No. 3 spot,” Schrager said. “The assumption being, if (a team) moves up to the two or the three spot, it would be for Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter, or the running back, Ashton Jeanty, who everyone expects to go somewhere in that five to seven to eight range. There have been teams making calls, and those teams are not immediately slamming down the phone. The Browns at No. 2, the Giants at No. 3, everyone assumes it’s going to be chalk, that this is going to go Cam Ward, it’s going to go Travis Hunter, it’s going to go Abdul Carter. Not so fast. I think the two spot gets very interesting if the Browns are listening to a godfather deal for them to trade back and for someone to trade up into the top three.”

This would certainly be an interesting development if a team traded up into the top three to select Jeanty, which would make him the highest running back selected in a draft since 2018 when Saquon Barkley went No. 2.

It would also behoov both teams to at least entertain deals, given their current laundry list of needs.

Meanwhile, according to the Titans themselves, they will indeed stay put at No. 1, meaning Ward should ultimately end up being the top pick.

“We’ve come to a consensus – the entire organization – is to stay at that pick,” said Titans GM Mike Borgonzi. “I guess you’ll find out Thursday night who we pick.”

Then again, maybe the Titans could surprise as well, and elect to go away from a QB themselves – however unlikely that might be.
