NETFLIX BOMBSHELL: Streaming Giant Sets Release Date for Long-Awaited Documentary “One for the Ages: San Francisco’s Pride”

— Fans of 49ers Football Rejoice as Deep-Dive Into Legendary Joe Montana, Glory, and Gameday Grit Drops Soon — Expect Raw Emotion, Locker Room Legends, and Cajun Fire Like Never Before

LOS GATOS, CA — May 13, 2025

In a move that’s already sending seismic waves through the NFL community and beyond, Netflix has officially announced the global release date for its much-anticipated documentary “One for the Ages: San Francisco’s Pride” — a sweeping,

emotional, and intimate portrait of Joe Montana, the San Francisco 49ers, and the golden era that forever transformed football.

The release date is set for Friday, May 30, 2025, and fans are already circling their calendars.

A Legacy Told Like Never Before

The documentary is being hailed as “the definitive telling of Joe Montana’s story”, charting his journey from a steely-eyed Notre Dame quarterback to the undisputed king of 1980s football.

But this isn’t just a highlight reel. “One for the Ages” promises raw locker room access, never-before-seen family footage, interviews with Montana’s fiercest rivals, and a chilling look at the pressure that comes with greatness.l

Sources close to the production describe the series as a blend of nostalgia and revelation — a powerful narrative that doesn’t shy away from Montana’s battles with injuries, media scrutiny, or his emotional departure from the team he built into a dynasty.

Star-Studded Interviews and Explosive Revelations

Expect appearances from Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Bill Walsh’s family, Tom Brady, John Elway, and even Michael Jordan, who speaks on what it meant to be a champion during Montana’s era.

But what truly elevates this documentary is the inclusion of Montana’s own handwritten notes, audio from game day headsets, and a dramatic retelling of the 1981 NFC Championship game, including the iconic “Catch” to Dwight Clark — newly restored with on-field mic’d-up audio.

“This is the Joe Montana you’ve never seen before,” said director Lisa Kurland, whose previous work includes The Last Dance and Quarterback. “He was a football god to the world, but we wanted to show the mortal man — the pain, the grit, the fire.”

“Cajun Fire”: A Surprising Twist

Adding a layer of cultural intensity is a surprising and heartfelt focus on the Louisiana roots of several key 49ers staff and players, including longtime assistant coaches, scouts, and trainers who brought a “Cajun fire” to the locker room.

A segment titled “Gumbo and Glory” details how these behind-the-scenes legends used family recipes, soul food, and faith to build chemistry in a franchise known for its clinical execution on the field. Netflix promises it will be one of the most emotional chapters in the series.
