New York Jets: Make $16 Million Decision on Offensive Cornerstone

The New York Jets found an absolute gem in the 1st round of the 2022 NFL Draft, selecting wide receiver Garrett Wilson tenth overall. Since then, Wilson has developed into a talented and reliable receiver, hauling in 279 receptions on 469 targets for 3,249 yards and 14 touchdowns in 51 games. His accolades include winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Wilson had his best statistical season during his third year, boasting career-highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns while leading the team in all three categories. He hauled in 101 receptions on 154 targets for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns in 17 starts.

The New York Jets must decide on his contract for 2026

The New York Jets have until Thursday, May 1, to either exercise or decline his fully guaranteed 5th-year option for the 2026 season. Because he played over 75% of the snaps and did not make the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons, Wilson’s option is categorized under Tier 2, the playtime tier. Tier 2 is worth $16.817 million, which is the equivalent of the average of the 3rd to 20th highest salaries for a wide receiver over the past five seasons, according to Over The Cap.

New York Jets made $16 million decision on offensive cornerstone

According to Ian Rapoport, during Monday’s press conference, GM Darren Mougey told the media that they plan to exercise Garrett Wilson’s 5th-year option. As a result, he will earn $16.817 million in 2026. The Jets could secure a long-term contract extension for Wilson this offseason because he is young and a cornerstone of their offense.
