NFL2025 NFL Draft: Saints set to replace Derek Carr with unexpected QB prospect

Posted on April 25, 2025

Derek Carr may not remain the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints much longer, as the NFC South team has reportedly identified the signal-caller who will replace him.

It seems the New Orleans Saints are ready to move on from Derek Carr. The NFC South team is now reportedly set to select an unexpected quarterback prospect in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft

During the 2023 offseason, the Saints made the decision to acquire a veteran quarterback to lead the offense. Derek Carr became available after being released by the Las Vegas Raiders, and New Orleans didn’t hesitate to sign him.

Unfortunately, the experiment hasn’t worked out as hoped. Two years later, the Saints appear ready to move on from Carr as their starter, with his potential replacement expected to be one of this year’s top quarterback prospects.

The 2025 NFL Draft is just around the corner. Hundreds of prospects are eagerly waiting to hear their names called by Commissioner Roger Goodell and realize their dream of playing professional football.

In the first round, several teams are expected to target quarterbacks, and the Saints have reportedly joined that list. Though Carr remains the current starter, his long-term future with the team appears uncertain.

Reports suggest the Saints could look to replace Carr as their starting quarterback. While he may stay on the roster as a veteran mentor, New Orleans seems poised to draft a rookie to take over the position soon.

The Saints currently hold the No. 9 overall pick, putting them in a strong position to select a top-tier quarterback. With the draft just hours away, reports indicate the front office has already identified their preferred target.

According to Aditi Kinkhabwala, NFL Insider for CBS, the Saints have strong interest in selecting Jaxson Dart with the 9th overall pick. Head coach Kellen Moore reportedly views Dart as an ideal successor to Carr—but there’s one complication.

In recent days, Dart has climbed draft boards and is now considered one of the best quarterback prospects available. As a result, the Saints may need to trade up to ensure they land their top target.
