Why Wes Welker, a former star of the Patriots, was “disappointed” by The Roast of Tom Brady
Wes Welker’s opinion of the Tom Brady roast was not particularly favorable.
Following his appearance on Netflix’s “The Greatest Roast Of All Time: Tom Brady,” former New England Patriots star Tom Brady’s impact is still being felt. The roasts offended some of Brady’s acquaintances, and Wes Welker, a former teammate, also voiced his disappointment.
Welker responded as follows, via Pro Football Network’s Adam Beasley, when asked which joke on the display was his favorite: Not really; the Brady Roast left me feeling a little let down. There were amusing incidents and all, but you know, things happened as they happened.
Welker gave an explanation for his absence from the roast, along with former teammates Drew Bledsoe, Rob Gronkowski, and Julian Edelman, but he did not specify which jokes he found offensive.
“I wasn’t requested to give a presentation. I’m glad I wasn’t there because I was asked to sit on the side and get roasted,” Welker told reporters. “I suppose to each their own.”
For six seasons, Wes Welker was one of Brady’s favorite targets. Welker finished with 37 touchdowns, four All-Pro selections, and at least 1,000 receiving yards in five of his six seasons. Welker wasn’t the only one who felt let down by some of the jokes that Tom Brady was made fun of.
There have been reports that some of the content offended Brady’s family. The venerable Patriots quarterback acknowledged he probably wouldn’t do it again, but he had a great time overall.

Tom Brady discussed how his children responded to the jokes from the session.
Brady stated on The Pivot Podcast, “I didn’t like the way it affected my kids, but I loved when the jokes were about me, I thought they were so fun.” The hardest part, then, is the bittersweet element of acting in what you initially believed to be one way and then realizing later that you wouldn’t act in that same way again due to the impact it had on the people who matter most to you.
Gisele Bundchen, Brady’s ex-wife, was reportedly offended by some of the roast’s content as well.
“In some ways, going through it makes you a better parent because,” Brady remarked. As I mentioned when I signed up for that, I enjoyed it when people made fun of me. However, there are moments when you’re naïve and don’t know or you feel a little like, oh sh*t.
Brady offered one last, grandiose summary of the encounter.
“You just don’t see the whole picture all the time, so it’s like I just wanted to like laugh and so I wanted to do the roast,” Brady continued. “The guy Jeff Ross became someone that I knew.” “Thus, I believe it will benefit me as a parent and make me a better parent going forward. I’m also happy that everyone who attended had a great time, but aside from that, I think it’s always good because, let’s face it, if we’re not laughing about things we’re crying, we should be having more fun.”
Brady feels that he laughed a little and learned from the experience, even though the outcome was not ideal.
