Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Matt Sokol is now a free agent after his practice squad contract expired. Sokol had been with the team during training camp and rejoined later in the season after the Steelers parted ways with Rodney Williams following his time on the active roster.
Sokol initially signed with Pittsburgh midway through training camp and made a few notable plays. However, the former Michigan State standout was released during the final roster cuts.
Throughout his career, Sokol has primarily played for the New England Patriots but has also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, and Detroit Lions. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019.
A return to Pittsburgh seems unlikely, especially after the Steelers recently signed Donald Parham. Parham is expected to compete for a roster spot as a veteran receiving option. Additionally, tight end MyCole Pruitt, who spent last season with the team, is also a free agent.
