The three-time Major winner competed in Monday night’s TGL main event, on the heels of a weekend that saw him get into a verbal altercation with a fan who yelled at his caddie at the Genesis Invitational.
After missing a ten-foot putt on the third hole, golf insider Dan Rapaport reported that a fan shouted, “Blame your caddie!” at McIlroy, who responded: “Shut the f*** up.”
Swift and harmless, albeit still notable because it came from McIlroy.
The Northern Irishman’s putting failed him over the weekend, resulting in a frustrating and disappointing 17th-place finish.
According to CBS Sports’ Rick Gehman, McIlroy lost 6.88 strokes with his putter over the weekend, making it the worst third and fourth round total of his career.
That interaction left the haters and trolls on the internet to do what they do best, and that’s hide behind their keyboards and take shots at someone they would never dream of doing to their face.
