Patriots Share Monumental Julian Edelman Update on Monday

 

The New England Patriots’ storied legacy is filled with iconic players who’ve left a lasting mark not just on the franchise, but on the broader landscape of the NFL.

 

Among the most instrumental during the team’s powerhouse run in the 2010s was wide receiver Julian Edelman—a trusted weapon for quarterback Tom Brady and a driving force behind the offense’s success during that era.

 

On Monday, the Patriots ensured Edelman’s legacy will live on in Foxborough forever, officially announcing that he won the fan vote to become the 37th inductee into the team’s Hall of Fame.

 

Over the course of 12 seasons with the Patriots, Edelman played in 137 games, started 85 of them, and left his name all over the record books—ranking second in franchise history in receptions (620), fourth in receiving yards (6,822), and ninth in receiving touchdowns (36).

 

Edelman was a vital contributor to three Super Bowl championships, most notably shining in Super Bowl LIII where he tallied 10 catches for 141 yards and earned MVP honors.

 

“Julian Edelman is one of the great success stories in our franchise’s history…. No one was more committed to his craft and honing his skills than Jules. His explosiveness off the line, quickness in his cuts and elusiveness after the catch made him one of the hardest players to defend. His clutch catches in our biggest games and overall toughness made him a fan favorite,” said Patriots owner Robert Kraft in the team’s announcement.

 

Originally drafted in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft as a quarterback out of Kent State, Edelman overcame long odds to carve out a remarkable NFL journey and now, a place among the franchise’s all-time greats.
