Reports: Jets WR Allen Lazard takes $8.5M pay cut to stay

Posted on April 10, 2025

With no guaranteed money left on his contract and most of his former Green Bay Packers compadres sent packing, wide receiver Allen Lazard agreed to a reduction in pay to remain with the New York Jets, according to multiple reports.

The Jets had no contractual assurances remaining to Lazard, 29, whose scheduled $11 million salary for 2025 was not guaranteed.

After receiving permission to seek a trade last month, Lazard and the Jets instead reworked his current contract to void the final year (2026) and reduce his base salary in 2025 to $2.25 million. Over The Cap first reported Lazard will also earn roster bonuses for each regular-season game of $250,000 for a potential increase of $4.25 million if he is on the roster for each of the Jets’ 17 games next season.

Lazard signed with the Jets to join Aaron Rodgers in New York. Lazard’s four-year, $44 million deal did not have the big payoff some anticipated.

Rodgers’ season-ending injury on the first series of his debut with the Jets in 2023 hindered Lazard, who collected 60 catches and seven touchdowns over the past two seasons with New York.

With Rodgers and Davante Adams, acquired in October 2024 from the Raiders, released in the offseason, new head coach Aaron Glenn publicly signaled Lazard might have a chance to stay because of his size and blocking prowess.

The Jets turned to free agent Justin Fields as their quarterback entering 2025, but the team is expected to shop the QB aisle in the upcoming draft.

In seven NFL seasons, Lazard has 27 TD catches among his 229 receptions with the Jets and Packers.
