All eyes will be on Rory McIlroy as the PGA Tour star makes his first start at the Scottish Open since his heart-breaking loss at the 2024 US Open.
All eyes will be on Rory McIlroy when he tees it up at the forthcoming Scottish Open.
The Northern Irishman, 35, will be making his first start since his heartbreaking loss to Bryson DeChambeau at the 2024 US Open.
It looked as though as it was harder for McIlroy to lose the major and break his 10-year major drought at Pinehurst No.2.
By now, you will know the story.
McIlroy missed two crucial putts over the closing holes and watched in disbelief as his LIV Golf rival produced an up-and-down for the ages on the 72nd hole.
The four-time major champion stormed off and decided to take a three-week break from the game to gather his thoughts and prepare for the final men’s major of the year at Royal Troon.
Before he begins his tilt at The Open, he will first compete at the Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club.
McIlroy is the defending champion in North Berwick and, incidentally, broke Robert MacIntyre’s heart when he produced an otherworldly finish to snatch the victory from the Scot.
On the 72nd hole, McIlroy hit a 2-iron into a 40mph wind to 11 feet to set up the winning birdie.
It was one of the golf shots of the year. Heck, it was likely one of the best shots he will ever hit.
At the time, McIlroy said: “When I turn 80, it will be one of the five best shots I hit in my entire career.”

Anyway, tournament organisers have decided to honour McIlroy’s shot with a plaque.
There is a small problem, though, as his name was completely butchered.
“You had one job,” one X user wrote. “This might need some editing,” another added.
