SAD REPORT:Video of Scottie Scheffler’s Arrest at 2024 PGA Championship Released by Police

Posted on July 22, 2024

The Louisville Police Department held a press conference Thursday to further discuss the arrest of golfer Scottie Scheffler during the 2024 PGA Championship outside Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

The police said no charges are being dropped at this time.

Although there is no video footage of the initial exchange between police and Scheffler, the Louisville Metro Police Department posted dash cam video from the arrest:

This comes after a Kentucky court postponed Scheffler’s scheduled court date until June 3.

Scheffler’s lawyer, Steve Romines, attended Thursday’s press conference and reiterated that he believes his client did nothing wrong. He also said “we’re not interested in settling the case.”

Scheffler was arrested prior to Friday’s second round.

The police report said he attempted to bypass the traffic that was caused by a fatal accident outside the course and allegedly ignored officer Bryan Gillis’ instructions and caused injuries when he “accelerated forward, dragging Detective Gillis to the ground.”

Yet Romines, released a statement that said, in part, “Multiple eyewitnesses have confirmed that he did not do anything wrong but was simply proceeding as directed,” per Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated.

“He stopped immediately upon being directed to and never at any point assaulted any officer with his vehicle. We will litigate this matter as needed and he will be completely exonerated.”

On Wednesday, Gabe Cohen of CNN reported some “high-ranking police officials in Louisville, Kentucky, have privately voiced concerns that the felony charge … is excessive.”

Scheffler was charged with felony second-degree assault on a police officer, as well as third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic.

Cohen also noted Gills’ body camera was not turned on during the incident, which Louisville Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel addressed Thursday:
