Saints Urged To Avoid Drafting Promising Quarterback In NFL Draft

The New Orleans Saints must select a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, and they appear to be focused on Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. The Saints have additional avenues to consider, such as other prospects and free agent quarterbacks; however, Sanders appears to be the leading name among them.

Brent Sobleski from Bleacher Report indicated that the Saints will be in “Sanders-or-bust territory” during the NFL Draft and strongly recommended that New Orleans should not select Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough.

The New Orleans Saints must either fully commit or entirely withdraw from this year’s quarterback class. “Sobleski stated that half-measures will not accomplish the task.” “Given the reports about Derek Carr’s shoulder injury, which jeopardizes his availability for the 2025 season, the Saints need to take a bold approach.”

Louisville’s Tyler Shough clearly illustrates a prospect seen as a skilled choice but wouldn’t fulfill the Saints’ needs, being a soon-to-be 26-year-old rookie with a lengthy injury record and just one season as a full-time starter. The Saints are essentially in a Sanders-or-bust situation, with Spencer Rattler as the backup option if the selection fails.

Among all the late-round quarterbacks the Saints could consider, Shough ranks as one of the least favorable choices. His age and injury record classify him as the type of prospect New Orleans should steer clear of.

The Saints may consider a variety of choices during the draft, but Shough may not be the option to pursue. Securing Sanders must be the primary focus, but the Louisville talent won’t serve as an effective backup option.
