The San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Brock Purdy have not had a great start to contract negotiations from all the reports that have swirled around.
Purdy is looking for a major pay raise following his first three seasons with the team. He’s looking to get paid somewhere close to $60 million, along the same lines as Dak Prescott got with the Dallas Cowboys.
With talks not seemingly progressing, some wild ideas have come out about what the 49ers should do.
One San Francisco insider offered a head-turning blockbuster Purdy trade this week.
Grant Cohn of 49ers on SI took to X to share an idea that would cause a major stir across the NFL. He thinks the team should trade Purdy to the Tennessee Titans for a second round pick and then draft a quarterback.
“Trade Brock Purdy to the Titans for their second round pick and draft a quarterback @49ers,” Cohn posted.
Trading Purdy would be a mind-blowing decision in and of itself. Moving on from him for a second-round pick would be even more shocking.

During the 2024 NFL season, Purdy played in 15 games. The entire team struggled and the 25-year-old quarterback was no different. He had a dip in production.
In the 15 games he played, Purdy threw for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, while completing 65.9% of his pass attempts. Those numbers were down from a 69.4% completion rate, 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions that he produced in 2023.
With the 2025 NFL draft set to begin on Thursday, the 49ers don’t have long to make a move if they are interested in trading Purdy.
