With the 37th pick overall and the fifth selection in the second round of SB Nation’s mock 2025 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders select Shavon Revel, cornerback from East Carolina.
After going with a luxury pick in round one by taking Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham, it’s time for the Raiders to address a need. The defense has been looking for cornerback help over the last few years and recently waived Jack Jones, who started 16 games for the club last season. In other words, Las Vegas’ secondary could use an injection of talent.
Also, Revel fits new head coach Pete Carroll’s “type” at cornerback. The East Carolina product has great length at nearly 6-foot-2 with 32⅝-inch arms. Also, he shows plenty of speed on tape and had good ball production in college — three interceptions and 15 passes defended in 15 games over the last two seasons. That should remind Carroll of Riq Woolen, who was a Pro Bowler during his rookie year with the Seattle Seahawks.
Additionally, Revel can be a good fit in either a zone- or man-coverage-heavy system. His long arms and speed give him the traits to be effective when playing press, and his awareness and ability to drive on routes stand out in zone.
With his potential and the void in the Raiders’ secondary, the former Pirate would have a chance to start as a rookie in Las Vegas.
Jakorian Bennett played well last season but struggled as a rookie and was limited to just 10 games (seven starts) in 2024 due to an injury. Meanwhile, second-year pro Decamerion Richardson had a tough rookie campaign, and free-agent signing Eric Stokes is a year removed from getting benched by the Green Bay Packers.
So, Revel would have a great opportunity to make a name for himself and could become the Silver and Black’s No. 1 corner as a rookie. He has a steep hill to climb in accomplishing that feat, but there is a path for him to reach the peak.
