I’ve got nothing but respect for what Mr. Kraft has done for the game, but at some point, you have to wonder if he’s still making football decisions for the right reasons,” Vrabel said. “He’s a billionaire who built a dynasty, sure — but lately, it feels like he’s just out of touch with the locker room.”
Vrabel, who was once floated as a potential successor to Bill Belichick, suggested that Kraft’s recent decisions prioritize business optics over football fundamentals.
You can’t run a team like a corporation and expect the culture to survive. Football is still a people business,” Vrabel explained. “When the guys in the locker room feel like the people upstairs don’t understand what they’re going through, you lose something. You lose trust. You lose identity.”
Though Vrabel didn’t go into specifics about which decision triggered his response, many are speculating that his comments are in reaction to Kraft’s handling of the post-Belichick era, including the hiring of a relatively unproven head coach and shifting power dynamics in the front office.
“There’s a reason some teams stay consistent and others start grasping for headlines,” Vrabel said. “And unfortunately, I think the Patriots are at that crossroads.”
